Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas

Staccato Inspired Socks

Here’s the final reveal on one of my Christmas knitting projects which by now has been opened by the recipient. I did show these socks before when they were partially finished, but then I re-knit them from the toes up.

Pattern: Inspired by Staccato Socks (Rav link) by Veronik Avery, published in Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn
Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in colorways Tahoe, Bucks Bar, and Motherlode; Opal Uni-solid in purple.
Needles: 2.5 mm Addi Turbo and Knit Picks circulars
Notes: I originally followed the pattern stitches through the heel, but I had misgivings about the inflexible nature of the wavy pattern the whole time I was knitting the foot. Finally I gave in and ripped them back to the toe. Starting again, I kept my color sequence, but knit a simple 2×2 ribbing using Cat Bordhi’s Riverbed sockitecture numbers. I think the original stitch pattern would work with a sproingy yarn that’s not knit as tightly as I like to knit my socks.

Toes, heels, and the cuff are striped 2 rows of each color with Tahoe and Bucks Bar. The rest of the sock is also striped in 2 rows of each color, alternating between Motherlode and solid purple. While it was fun to use this much color it did leave quite a few ends to weave in! Next time I’ll learn how to weave some of them in as I go or I’ll use a single handpainted yarn for the toes/heels/cuffs.
