Horses

They’re doing pretty well at home. The big challenge is separating them which is nearly impossible. We’ve been working on it gradually – taking them apart from each other in the pasture and last night R took Blondie for a walk (out of sight) while I worked with Zi. I have a feeling we’ll be extending the pasture into the woods, down to the neighbors fence line. They have 2 horses, a mini horse, and a goat so the hope would be that their animals could act as companions to Blondie or Zi. We have another neighbor, two properties away, that we could leave 1 horse with while taking the other one some place, but that’s better suited to if I was going to take Zi to a show all day or something. I will be able to offer her the same option once we finalize our round pen and pasture setup.

R and I are getting used to it, though I still wouldn’t say it’s easy. There’s still a ton of things to do: subdivide the pasture, overseed, pull weeds, pick rocks, decide when/how much hay to purchase for the winter, etc. Then again, if the horses weren’t here we’d just have found a ton of other things to do around the property!

Pumpkin

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

Last year during the holidays I would bring home a can or 2 or pumpkin every time it was on sale. One day R was in the pantry when he said to me, “how come there are 8 cans of pumpkin in here?” I said, “because after the holidays I won’t be able to find it in the store and I don’t want to run out.”

About a month ago I ran out. My pancakes have been so blah since then. They’re just not the same without pumpkin. Even making them with cinnamon or blueberries isn’t as good as pumpkin.

Last week R said he knew a store that still had pumpkin so he went and got me a can. Just one can.

Pumpkin

Do you see where this is going?

That is a full size laptop.

And a normal 12 oz can of Coke.

Yep, it’s one ginormous can of pumpkin. I couldn’t be happier. 🙂 The very next morning I made pumpkin pancakes and the day after that I made pumpkin pie oatmeal. I believe a week has passed and I’ve had pumpkin in my breakfast every single day.

Pumpkin

Bisquick, chia egg (< 1 tbsp chia mixed with 1/4 cup water, let sit for 15 minutes), almond milk, and pumpkin. Topped with coconut 'oil' (at room temp it is solid like softened butter) and real maple syrup (because I am not supposed to eat corn). Now I need to break my Bisquick habit and make them from scratch.

Yum.

Best Sandwich Ever

at least until I get tired of it. My next batch of sprouts won’t be ready to eat for another couple of days or I’d be eating this now.

(bread, mayonnaise or vegenaise, avocado, sprouts, tomato)

Clearly, food blogger I am not. I don’t have the patience for making food look pretty or for getting the perfect camera shot. Maybe if I made 2 sandwiches, ate one, and then messed around with photos…

To Be a 2 Year Old Horse

Monday, August 15th, 2011

All I can think is, “I’m going to ride that next year?!?” In reality, she is very calm when being trained so I don’t think it will be a problem. She is really athletic though!

We only let her do this for 2 minutes. I don’t want her straining her legs running in a circle. Even though she’s choosing to do this, I still worry that it could be too much on the circle if we were to let her go as long as she wanted to.

Zi and Blondie Shenanigans

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Are you sick of these horses yet? I think the number of horse posts has outnumbered knitting posts lately.

I call this one, “Of course, because I was about to ride you.” And then because I’m such a nice momma to these girls I raked all the rocks out of their dirt pit.

And here we have Zi antagonizing Blondie. Cracks me up. Even though Blondie gets irritated with Zi, I caught them grooming each other this weekend. That made me feel better about how they’re getting along.

It’s not that there hasn’t been any knitting – it’s just knitting I can’t show you. 🙂
