They’re doing pretty well at home. The big challenge is separating them which is nearly impossible. We’ve been working on it gradually – taking them apart from each other in the pasture and last night R took Blondie for a walk (out of sight) while I worked with Zi. I have a feeling we’ll be extending the pasture into the woods, down to the neighbors fence line. They have 2 horses, a mini horse, and a goat so the hope would be that their animals could act as companions to Blondie or Zi. We have another neighbor, two properties away, that we could leave 1 horse with while taking the other one some place, but that’s better suited to if I was going to take Zi to a show all day or something. I will be able to offer her the same option once we finalize our round pen and pasture setup.
R and I are getting used to it, though I still wouldn’t say it’s easy. There’s still a ton of things to do: subdivide the pasture, overseed, pull weeds, pick rocks, decide when/how much hay to purchase for the winter, etc. Then again, if the horses weren’t here we’d just have found a ton of other things to do around the property!
